Review: Excellent hardware let down by very poor software - but there is a solution!! - I bought this as a refurb unit and after reading numerous reviews, I know why. The software has a major flaw which becomes apparent when you try to save your scanned images. The software crashes. I've tried on 2 different computers and the same thing happens. Also the scanner is advertised as having a scanning resolution of up to 1,200 DPI. It may well do but the software only supports up to 600 DPI. If you manage to save your scan quickly i.e. before the bug kicks in, you may well be able to use the scanner - however it is unlikely that you will find this satisfactory. I did though actually like the hardware. It is robust, scans quickly and is flexible in it's scanning capabilities. There is an alternative software solution using an open source scanning solution called NAPS (not another PDF Scanner) - which recognises the scanner and works perfectly - without the Save Bug. In summary HP have produced a solid scanner but the software provided and the apparent support (seen on other reviews) of the scanner appears to be very poor. Review: Too much "value" engineering - Cannot recommend. I purchased this because it's an HP. I've owned lots of HP equipment and in general have always found them to be of a high quality. However the same cannot be said of this one. It appears to have been value engineered to an extreme degree. The ADF was flimsy and not robust enough to stop scans coming out wonky. The quality of the scans was poor, even at the maximum dpi. And the software continually crashed, rendering the scanner unusable. Also as an aside, the EULA process stated that the software would share details of my scans and retain my email address for marketing purposes. It was not possible to opt out of this, even in the software configuration tabs. (My recollection is that this is not consistent with GDPR, but I may be wrong.) Your mileage may vary, but I ended up returning this and opting for a ScanSnap instead.
