Review: Good value for money - works brilliantly - Reason for
buying: I purchased a VW Transporter panel van with no rear
windows and no rear-view mirror. I also required a Dash Cam
having had one in each of previous three vehicles. Delivery: I
purchased an Auto-Vox V5 Pro Mirror Dash Cam from desertcart UK;
it was delivered the next day using desertcart Prime. Packaging:
The packaging it was contained in was up-market and sturdy
looking, protecting the mirror, camera and fittings completely.
Build Quality: While unboxing it was very noticeable the mirror,
camera, etc. were well built with a high-end finish.
Instructions: The instruction book was a little small for me.
However, I was able to download an electronic copy from
Auto-Vox’s web site. I watched several ‘Youtube’ videos where
people had fitted the same mirror and where people gave advice on
selecting the correct fuse to connect to. Service: My van uses
different fuses to those contained within the packaging. The
instruction book states who to contact at Auto-Vox to receive the
correct fuse taps. I emailed Auto-Vox giving my Purchase Order
Number and type of fuse required; they where delivered the next
day. Installation: Installation took 4 hours start to finish,
prior to fitting I carried out a test connection of all the parts
including connecting the feed wires to the fuse box, the mirror
came to life and worked faultlessly. I unplugged everything, then
began installation, referring back to the instruction book
between stages. Ease of use: I’ve used the mirror dash cam for a
couple of days, it has a clear, bright image even at night. The
on-mirror menu system is intuitive when setting up for first use.
Satisfaction: It is a great product; support from Auto-Vox was
first-class; it was easy to fit; it works just as advertised; I
am extremely happy with my purchase.
Review: Excellent dashcam for Ford Transit Jumbo with exceptional
customer service - I bought this dash cam as I wanted a reversing
camera for a Ford Transit Jumbo, and after all the research I
decided to go for this instead of one of the cheapy brake light
reversing cameras with a stuck on TFT screen on the dash or over
the mirror. I'm really glad I did, this camera is awesome. My
transit doesn't have a factory installed rear view mirror
(pointless as normally there is a bulkhead behind you so you
wouldn't see anything) so I wanted something where the mirror
doubles up as the screen, i.e. only having one thing so it looks
neat and tidy. The kit arrived very well packed in a study box
not dissimilar to an Apple product, and had all the wires inside
and a useful instruction manual for mounting as well as operation
of the camera. I've never installed a dashcam or any other camera
like this before so that was handy, as initially seeing all the
wires and connectors was a bit confusing. But did some research,
watched a couple of videos on installing, and cracked on. I chose
not to use the mounting bracket for the brake light on the rear,
as on my transit it is low down and on one of the side doors.
Instead I mounted it just below the third rear brake light, and
drilled a small hole into the van to the side of it for the
wires, then ran it all the way down the side channel, up around
the driver door, and down the A pillar, through the steering
wheel cavity (had to remove the cup holder for access) and then
into the fuse box there. Was very happy to find that the length
of wire for the reversing camera was enough to reach the
connections at the front in my Jumbo which is around 7m long, so
that was great. For tapping into the reverse lights, I ran the
wire down the back door pillar, and this one was a little short.
So I just butt connected a small extension to reach the floor of
the van where the access for the cables is and joined it in
there. Tips for install: - Make sure you have the right size fuse
and fuse tap adapters! I was just about to start my install then
realised that my van uses mini blade fuses, but the kit comes
supplied with micro. I messaged Autovox and had a very quick
reply from Lily, who was great, and gave me the option to either
have them send me the correct one for my van at no cost, or I
could buy my own and they would reimburse if it wasn't too
expensive. True to their word, I bought one from another seller
on desertcart as I wanted it next day, messaged Lily with the
details, and Autovox refunded me the cost of that additional
purchase. Incredible customer service, going above and beyond
what was unexpected. - Find some good spots in your fuse box. The
hardwire kit needs two, one that has constant power and one that
is switched power. The fuse taps take up some space so you might
not be able to get two right next to each other. And don't piggy
back off anything important, like air-bags etc. I piggy backed
off an interior light fuse for one, and the other was spare on my
van. Your manual should tell you what is what. - If you don't
already have a mirror, you'll need to glue on the blank mirror
button (which they include in the kit, as well as adapters for
most vehicles) so that you can then slide on the Autovox mirror.
This was the hardest part of the install for me, as I kept
glueing it, only to find it falling off the next day with the
mirror on the floor! This was after leaving it over night to cure
before adding the weight of the screen as well. I was originally
trying to adhere it with some 3M VHB tape, then after that some
3M very low temperature VHB (as I was doing this in the dead of
winter, which didn't help- had a radiator on in the van to keep
the ambient temperature warm enough for the adhesive!). Both of
those fell off, in the end I went for some EvoStik rear view
mirror glue which has done the job, and the camera has now been
up for weeks, and on drives, with no problem, woohoo! What I like
about this camera: - Having an OEM looking install is great, I'm
really happy I didn't go for one of the stick on square lcd
screens you see everywhere on eBay - The driving mode is really
good, when I'm driving I can now use the rear view mirror as an
actual rear view mirror, through the live camera feed to the
back. This has made a big change driving in the van seeing what's
behind me, as I can't see out the back normally - The reverse
detection is really fast and works great. And what I didn't
realise until testing it, was that the camera can change it's
angle. So in reversing mode, I have it pointing slightly further
down at the ground, whereas normal driving is further up looking
out at the road. You can use two fingers on the screen to swipe
and change the angle up and down, and it remembers the position.
- The LCD is easy to use and is touch screen - It has impact
detection, so when the vehicle is off, if something slams into it
it wakes up and starts recording. I've tested that working by
turning down the sensitivity and slamming the doors hard, which
triggers it - Bit daft, but I quite like the cheery jingle when
the unit powers up and shuts down! - The quality is good at
1080p. In low light it gets a bit grainier of course, but that's
expected All in all this is a great camera, really happy with my
choice. There is a few things that could make it even better, but
no biggie: - The reverse light trigger cable could be a little
longer, so it's usable as is for large vans - It would be good if
it was made a bit clearer the different fuse taps options on the
description, though really that was my fault for not checking
It's a bit more expensive than the other cameras out there, but
was pretty much the only OEM style one I could find. Fingers
crossed it stays working well! I've added a few pics of what it
looks like in the front, mounted on the back in the custom way I
did it, and an example from the kit itself from the front and
back. If you know what you're doing installing this, it is great.
