1.Monochrome CMOS image sensor optimized to enhance the quality of monochrome images. The camera incorporates a monochromatic-specific CMOS image sensor in APS-C format without an AA anti-aliasing (low pass) filter, with approximately 25.73-effective megapixels. Conventional colour image sensors are designed to receive light by passing through the Bayer Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B), so each pixel only detects one component of color data. In addition, to compose a monochrome image, color sensors need to convert color data into monochrome data, interpolating the collected color data. The new monochrome image sensor, on the other hand, can accurately reflect the luminance data obtained from each sensor pixel, eliminating the interpolation process, to produce an extremely refined and faithful monochrome expression, resulting in high-resolution images rich in tonal shades. 2. Image quality designed exclusively for monochrome photography. The image quality produced by the original PENTAX K-3 Mark III (colour) camera has been carefully reevaluated and completely redesigned to optimize the image characteristics of the new specific monochrome sensor. The result is a highly luminance sensitive image with a natural bokeh effect, rich tonal gradation and fine sharpness, an image quality that only the monochrome sensor can offer. 3. Selection of dedicated image profiles for monochrome images. The PENTAX K-3 Mark III Monochrome offers three custom image modes, designed exclusively for monochrome photography to give images a distinctive finishing touch. In addition to the "Standard" mode, it also features "Hard" mode to produce high-contrast images and "Soft" mode to create high-tonal and low-contrast images.
