Review: plug and play - I like it when an item that I buy is as
advertised and this speaker mic combo doesn't disappoint. While
music fans may be put off by not great bass performance, it's a
great speaker for general use. I plugged it into the USB port and
windows 11 did the rest with no mucking around with settings. I
clipped it to the top of my monitor and it freed up desk space
that my old speakers occupied. I'd buy it again.
Review: Set your expectations for sound quality accordingly -
decent compact plug and play speaker - Review item: USB Computer
Speakers with Detachable Microphone, Plug and Play Desktop
Speaker with Monitor Clip, Stereo Sound & Bass, Suitable for PC,
PS5, Switch 2 and Laptop Price at time of review: $29.99 Desk
space is at a premium for me, so I got this speaker, which can
clip to my monitor, to replace a soundbar that sits directly on
my desk. Unfortunately, I won't be making the switch - in direct
comparison to my existing speaker, this 10-inch speaker sounds
tinny and lacks bass. Being so small, it lacks decent sound
separation. Now, this isn't a fair comparison, because my
existing soundbar cost around $50 a few years ago and is 16
inches wide. But I can't bring myself to take this downgrade to
save a couple inches of desk space. And it's not so bad, compared
to listening to music on your phone's speaker, for example.
Another consideration you should make is where you can clip it.
My monitor has thin bezels on the top and sides, and that left
the bottom as the only spot that could take it without actually
blocking any of my screen. Windows by default does not have a way
to switch left and right channels - although there is software
you can download to do that. There are many things I like about
this unit. It only requires a single USB 3.0 connection (the blue
ports) to both power the unit and transmit audio. It was plug and
play for me in Windows. And the button controls for volume on the
unit actually control the Windows volume slider. These are both
upgrades from my current soundbar, which requires a separate cord
for power and has a completely independent volume knob - if you
turn up the volume all the way in Windows and all the way on the
soundbar, you get distortion and can blow it out. This clip-on
speaker, by contrast, has a great volume range that works great
with the Windows volume control. I did not test the microphone
which plugs into the single jack in the back of the unit, having
never intended to use it. At it's current price, I find it on the
higher end of the range. You may want to shop around - the clip
on speaker seems to be currently limited to 10 inches, and I
suppose if you set your expectations for sound quality
accordingly, this could be a decent pick.
