It is soft but you can hold it and sqyush it, it becomes flat like. It changes colors by touching it and the remote controls the lights too, plus turns it on & odd and that's how you set the timer. So it can sit on night stand or your child can hold it while they sleep. I got them the dragon and he's super cute. I'm going to order a junior size one so both my grandson's can each have one if they want to actually sleep wit it. Plus I like that it's rechargeable. Great night light!!
