Ultrastar DC HC550 integrates a set of technologies into a 9-disk platform to create a new class of HDDs. 16TB capacity is achieved by combining technologies that improve area density working together with technologies that improve performance and reduce power consumption. The first HDD in the industry to take advantage of Power Assisted Magnetic Recording (EAMR) technology improves writing ability and therefore increases the density of the area. Industry first Triple Stage Actuator (TSA) improves head positioning accuracy, providing better performance and higher area density. HelioSeal technology is the foundation for Western Digital's high capacity HDDs and this is the 6th generation HelioSeal product. Western Digital has shipped over 65 million HelioSeal products to date.
