It's easy for her to open and close and switch on and off. She is doing very well with the guided letter writing so I think it all depends on the development of your child and I love the Spanish numbers too. The only gripe are the bag stickers which are peeling at the corners. It also came with demo batteries which ran out in less than a week but it's well made and well designed. My other toddler has Mr Pencil but I think this is equally as good. Review: Great for toddlers - Perfect present for my 2 yr old niece. She loves it and great for learning Spanish
