Review: Well-Made Throwback Console with SNK’s Best Hits - I
picked up the NEOGEO Mini as a nod to my gaming roots. The
Neo-Geo was one of those iconic consoles I never owned, but I
loved its games. When I saw this unit at a good price, it felt
like the perfect opportunity to dive back in. Packaging was
vibrant and true to the arcade vibe, and the unit itself felt
reassuringly solid despite its plastic build. Setup was quick,
and I’ve had no performance issues. The screen is sharp, sound is
decent (though a touch distorted at higher volumes), and the
controls are surprisingly comfortable—even with big hands, the
joystick and buttons hold up well. The game line-up is fantastic,
with classics like Metal Slug, King of Fighters, and Super
Sidekicks. I’ve enjoyed rediscovering titles like Top Players
Golf and Puzzled, though I do miss Soccer Brawl, a personal
favourite. Design-wise, it’s compact and stylish, perfect for a
desk setup. USB-C power and HDMI output give it versatility, and
controller ports allow for multiplayer fun. Overall, it’s a
charming retro console with heart. It’s not about cutting-edge
graphics—it’s about fun, nostalgia, and quirky gameplay. For fans
of SNK and classic arcade titles, it’s a winner.
Review: aesthetically pleasing, fun to play arcade mini - As
someone whose never owned a SNK console before, and is an avid
fan of the Metal Slug series, I snapped up this mini immediately.
Needless to say I was not disappointed, the display is crystal
clear and of great quality which is a contrast to a lot of cheap
mini handhelds/mini's I've had previously. The 40 game selection
is brilliant and provides the right balance of variety whilst
also providing several games in their respective genre's
(shooters, sports, fighting, beat em ups etc). My only criticism
is that the buttons are a little bit too close together, and you
have to have the console plugged in, via USB at all times in
order to play. Although these are small criticisms if you ask me.
