Can't believe it took me so long to think of this neat and obvious solution... This handy splitter sends my internet to both my access point AND directly to my computer, so now I've got rock-solid wifi AND ethernet. Problem solved! I also bought some shorter cables for neatness. And as a bonus, the ethernet ports work whichever way! Super handy as otherwise those shorter cables would've been too short.
