Review: Bravia next level - State of the art TV. The picture is
amazing.
Review: Great Picture. But... - Sony has a very good reputation
and invite us to pay a few hundred pounds more for their TVs. The
picture on this OLED Bravia 8A 55" TV is great but the software
is not up to that accolade and has issues... The TV offers
YouView as a programme-manager or Google TV: the YouView is
necessary in UK to use BBC iPlayer and the Channel 4 streamer and
ITVx. If YouView is disabled those streamers go too. If you keep
YouView you can't pause live TV as it claims without the
necessary USB device being reported as almost full (when it is
empty): this bug has been known about for years and not
addressed. Also the Sony YouView will not record live TV (this is
a YouView feature). The TV seems to have at least 2 other
programme-listers and it seems never sure which one will appear
or what programme is selected when one of then is selected. Also,
when (for example) the adult channels are hidden or deleted on
one list they are still present on the others! It seems like the
TV is not meant for the UK market and the software is an
afterthought. It's frustrating. The TV is probably going to be
returned for a 'freely' equipped OLED which seems to have
everything the Sony does not... By the way; Sony sales and most
dealers do not seem to know that the BRAVIA 8 and (less
expensive) 8A are IDENTICAL apart from the remote controls
supplied and some free movie streaming credits...
