Review: Works amazing - There is a lot to love with this styling
tool. First off its packaging is very nice. It looks very
giftable and expensive in its box. It comes with one of the
styling heads already installed and the other two nestled in the
box, it also comes with instructions, a velveteen storage bag and
a single two-fingered glove which works but is not my favorite
(its a bonus item however so not a deal breaker). The heads are
easy to swap out, just push on the lock button on the back and
pull on the plastic at the top of each head and they pop right
off. Install is just as easy, select the desired head and then
push on until you hear the click from the lock button and done.
The swivel, on the power cord, is probably the smoothest I've
ever had in a styling tool, and the cord length is generous. The
tool itself functions very well - it heats up extremely quickly.
It went from start up to 410F (top heat setting) in 80 seconds
(mind you this is in an air conditioned room with fan circulation
- so not ideal heat generating conditions), it hit 250F (minimal
heat setting) in just shy of 40 seconds. Cool down is pretty
quick, it took about 2 minutes to go from 410 to 250 and the tool
was touchable within five minutes or so after powering down -
still warm but touchable for sure. The handle stays cool and is
thin enough to be very comfortable in my hands. The hourglass
shape helps keep hands from sliding around and into the heat
elements. Minor negatives: It does not remember temperature
settings when unplugged so it will always default to 360F at
start up, it does however seem to remember temp settings if you
just turn it off and do not unplug. I personally always unplug
heating elements so this is a minor annoyance for me. Speaking of
temperature this does not appear to have a setting to change to
Celsius if you are a non-American user - perhaps there is an
international model that does, as Celsius temperatures are listed
in the instructions, but I could not find a setting or
instructions to change it off of Fahrenheit. The actual styling
with this is nice. The tool heads work as expected - the thin
barrel rod is my favorite but all have their uses, and they leave
my hair looking shiny, smooth and frizz free. With prior
detangling none of my hair got caught or snagged, no sticking. I
have not noticed any heat damage while using this (I do use heat
protectant though and make sure to style on a lower heat
setting). Overall I'm very impressed with this tool. It will
replace 3 styling tools in my cabinet, freeing up so much space,
and works better too so I would happily recommend this.
Review: Incredible tool for my 2C type hair - I've recently come
to understand that I have 2C type hair on the top of my head,
with 4B type hair in the inner sections around my neck. Not
knowing how to care for the 4B hair has meant lots of dry Z
shaped hair in the inner sections with lots of breakage. There's
a lot of talk of this being called "Irish curls," and I've spent
my lifetime trying to figure out how to handle this vast
difference in hair texture, often fighting against the outer or
the inner layer in favor of the other. Since I'm fully caucasian,
the hair care I've received my entire life has been based on
caucasian hair techniques and products which does not suit my
inner z-wave layer of hair. I've turned my attention toward the
advice and care that black women show their own hair. And while I
may not understand black hair culture or the challenges of that
type of hair, the knowledge and expertise has been invaluable. I
hadn't even heard of a hot comb before it was made mention on
social media recently, and I figured I should give it a shot.
Forgive my makeup free, toddler mom exhaustion in the photo, but
I have to give praise where it's due to this product for
straightening and smoothing the hair along my neck and in my
lower layers. On the left side damp and is unstyled, so the
z-wave hair on the lower layer hasn't dried to its kinkier,
shorter stage yet...and on the right is after a quick blow dry
and one pass of the hot comb. Silky, smooth texture that my hair
has never had before! I have not tried the curling iron yet, but
I'm looking forward to doing so when I have a lot of extra time
on my hands. This is a great styling product and I'd recommend it
to ANYONE with combination hair that is looking for a more
uniform, less chaotic, head of hair.
