Review: A good return to form for Metroid Prime. - I was really
excited for this finally to be released. It's been a while since
I had played MP3, so there was a slight learning curve to get
back into the swing of things. As of this writing I am about 10
hours into the game. Pros, Cons, and things to note: 1. This game
is absolutely gorgeous. The graphics are sharp, crisp, and well
polished. I have the normal Switch version and I am surprised how
good it looks for just 1080p. I would personally play this game
docked so you can appreciate the gameplay and details put into
it. I made to be an experience rather than a handheld game. 2. I
personally use a Pro controller to play (third party) since I am
not a fan of motion control gimmicks. The default button mapping
is a little strange. I had to change up a lot of them. Luckily,
you can pretty much remap every button. There are a lot of
different modes to switch through, so it may take some time to
commit it all to muscle memory. 3. Samus, I swear, moves like she
is just taking a casual stroll. During boss fights and
horde-style battles it feels like you are hardly dodging out of
the way. She feels sluggish. The enemies move much faster than
you do. 4. The additional characters aren't as bad as you would
think. Sure, the first guy has "comic relief" vibes, but he
doesn't stick with you long. It is kind of a welcomed addition to
see other humans in the game play along with you. 5. Like the
other MP games, it is a scan fest. If you want 100%, the first
thing you do after walking into a new area is scan...and
scan...and scan. Scan everything. If it moved, scan it. If it
changed states, scan it. If it is the same thing but in a
different room, scan it. Elevator went up, down, and back up?
Scan it each time. It's tedious and slows the game down. 6. So
far, the game has been very fair difficulty-wise. On normal I
haven't had too much trouble, except for one part in the Ice
area... Thank God for Tokabi. But enemies can do a lot of damage.
Like 40 or 50 points at times with each hit. Boxes are plentiful
though to replenish. 7. I have yet to run into any really well
hidden secret areas, and I explore a lot. It feels pretty linear
on where you are allowed to go and getting more missiles/ammo
looks to be mostly backtracking once you get the upgrade to
retrieve them. 8. The Vi-O-La bike is a lot cooler than it looked
in previews. Usually adding vehicles to games like this is super
tacky, but I like this one. Since this game went to "hub world"
style gameplay, you need it to get around. 9. Story-wise, I
haven't paid much attention, but you seem to be retrieving
artifacts via teleporter keys. It's on par with the previous
titles. So, it's decent. Overall, for a Switch 1 game, it looks
far better than any release game was. Definitely worth a play if
you enjoyed the previous MP games. Now all we need is a Super
Metroid Prime SNES remake.
Review: It's good, almost too epic, new retrostudio rules! - This
new sequel was well 60.00 dollars. Battle wise it is no slacker,
maps puzzle wise is an issue if you don't know how to read prime
maps. The characters that help you are a plus, turn off voice
volume if you don't like it This game in general feels like
oot/botw. That's a big plus if you like exploring and trying to
figure out things. There are people who dislike this game but
don't let that stop if you liked the Metroid Prime 1 remaster!
