They are not as bright and one of the pens was just a solid light blue color without the bow designs. They have black ink and write a fine line - like other .5mm pens. They work well and each one comes with a little hard waxy tip covering the ball point. I like that it came with three packs of four so we can keep a pack for us and save the others to use later or give as gifts down the road. I just wish the colors on the outside were a little brighter. Overall, these retractable gel ballpoint pens function well, with smooth ink, bold lines, and a comfortable grip. However, the barrels have a translucent outer layer that covers the pen design, making it almost impossible to see the decorations on some of the pens. It looks like this layer should peel off since it holds the barcode, but I couldn’t find any way to remove it. Because the aesthetic is important to me, I feel this set deserves four stars instead of five.
