To achieve this, the Vero’s chassis has been constructed using 30% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic, which is plastic that has already been used and would otherwise have been destined for landfill, incineration or, even worse, polluting the planet for hundreds of years while it gradually decomposed. In total, the Vero uses 170g of PCR plastic in every laptop. By using recycled plastics, we were also able to save over 20% in CO2 emissions compared to a regular laptop as well as reducing the need for new plastics to be manufactured, in turn reducing the need for more fossil fuels to be produced to make the plastic. As well as reducing the carbon footprint of the construction of the Vero, it is also designed to help minimise its environmental impact later in its life-cycle as well. With this in mind, the Vero’s chassis features standard screws that are easily accessible, meaning you get easy access to its internals. This helps improve both the reparability and upgradeability of the Vero, meaning you can keep using it for years to come when you might otherwise have ended up needing to replace a less sustainably-designed laptop. Also, the Vero’s plastic body doesn’t feature any paints, dyes or inks that have the potential to end up leaching toxic substances into the environment. The packaging for the Vero reflect these aspects of the laptop as well. The box the Vero comes in is made from 80%+ recycled cardboard while the inner tray is made from 100% recycled paper. Additionally paper sleeves have been used for accessories such as the charger where previously we would’ve used plastic bags. The box is also designed so that it can be folded into a laptop stand, meaning that the packaging can be re-used rather than simply disposed of - however if you no longer need it, it is 100% recyclable as well. Finally, all the text and graphics printed on the packaging use either water-based or soy inks, so there are no harmful chemicals used.
