Mercusys AC12 AC1200 Dual Band Wireless Router is designed to upgrade home and small office networks to the 802.11ac standard, delivering AC1200 class dual-band Wi-Fi for everyday connectivity and media use. It complies with the 802.11ac specification, offering total wireless speeds up to 1200 Mbps, which is stated as up to three times faster than the previous 802.11n generation under similar conditions. The router broadcasts concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks: the 2.4 GHz band provides up to 300 Mbps for routine tasks such as web browsing, email and social media, while the 5 GHz band reaches up to 867 Mbps to better handle online gaming, HD streaming and other heavier traffic when supported by client devices. Four external 5 dBi antennas, combined with advanced antenna design, extend wireless signal intensity and coverage so that connectivity is available in more areas throughout a large home or office. The AC12 supports IPv6 to allow use of IPv6-based services and websites from compatible internet service providers, helping align the local network with newer internet addressing standards. For IPTV, the router offers IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN options that can be used to optimize IPTV streaming traffic for better efficiency and viewing stability. Installation uses a guided three-step web-based wizard: creating a login password, choosing the internet connection type and entering the required details and then setting the wireless network name and password. Security is handled through WPA/WPA2 encryption to provide an active defense against unauthorized access and common wireless threats. 2×2 MIMO technology increases wireless transmission efficiency between the router and multiple devices, enhancing overall throughput under multi-client usage. A dedicated guest network function allows visitors to connect via a separate SSID, keeping the main internal network more isolated while still providing internet access.
