Synology DS2422+ 12-Bay

The 12-bay Synology DiskStation DS2422+ is a capable choice for small and medium businesses with large storage, file sharing, and data protection requirements in a multi-user environment. It comes with powerful storage management, file syncing, surveillance, and backup software, and is suitable for editing high-quality video and as VM storage. Review: very good hardware, dubious compatibility policy - 5 stars for the hardware; 1 star for scaring the owners of DS2422+ to use Synology branded hard drives. It is questionable whether the Synology branded HDDs are more reliable than the competition (e.g., wd red pro), yet they are outrageously more expensive. Synology is desperately trying to get their customers to buy their "own" Synology-branded HDDs and RAM. However, Synology does not even produce their own HDDs or RAM. Toshiba produces their HDDs, Axiom produces or rather re-brands their RAM. Arguably, other drive manufacturers like WD and Seagate, and other RAM manufacturers like MIcron/Crucial, Kingston, Samsung are at least equal in quality and reliability, provided equivalent types of each. Likely whatever Axiom re-brands on behalf of Synology is Micron, Kingston, or Samsung under the hood anyway. It's terribly misleading and very shady. If they did provide a notice once, during install, I would not have bothered. But this happens on every single boot. And the wording suggests to the average user that proceeding with non-Synology HDDs and RAM may cause critical errors. Absolute nonsensical. I want to see a detailed study proving that "Synology" HDDs and RAM are statistically less prone to errors and faults, on average, vs other products. - Of course, Synology cannot test every single type of RAM or HDD incl various firmwares out there, but who is demanding that? None of this gives Synology the right to dramatize the situation and continuously bug their customers with excessive 'clickbait-like' warnings. Ridiculous. Do not support companies with this kind of attitude. Plenty of alternatives out there. My last Synology product or service for good. AVOID.
