Back then, Google was barely a thing, so my brother and I would exchange notes (which, let’s be honest, meant doing nasty favors and trading chores) just to make sure we didn’t miss any of the 100+ characters — all in our own separate playthroughs, no save sharing, btw. The hero isn’t just some lone chosen one; the real heart of Suikoden is building your own army — recruiting over 100 characters, each with their own stories + personalities + unique abilities. Tracking them down is half the fun and incredibly addictive!!! The remaster does a great job polishing the visuals without losing that nostalgic pixel charm. The soundtrack still slaps — those tunes will get stuck in your head for days. Combat is classic turn-based: smooth + easy to pick up. Beautiful new backgrounds and character art. Really nice quality of life features added such as fast forwarding battles, which helps to speed through easier battles. Another great new feature is the ability to record character dialogue. This is useful because players can record dialogue during important cutscenes or when NPC offer useful information in order to figure out what to do next. Even if players stop playing the game for weeks, being able to review previous dialogue can help players get back on track.
