The hard-boiled Leo Anderson directs the expedition into the unknown and helps his allies break through the underwood. It allows them to move a field far when he performs the action Move. His right hand is Ursula Downs, the explorer. Once per round, she can listen to the call of the unknown and decide to move around a field before or after the action Explore or interaction with a sight marker.

But the strange events of Arkham not only affect those willing to face the dangers of the jungle as easily as others do their everyday lives. There are still others caught by the powers of myth. Daniela Reyes, the mechanic, loves to learn how things work, and constantly takes machines apart and puts them back together. If she or one of her comrades solves a puzzle during an adventure, she can either get two clues or put down a horror. Miscatonic astronomer Norman Withers completes the expedition. Similar to Daniela, Norman can also receive two clues once per round or put down a horror, provided he is on an outfield where he can read what's in the stars.
