Review: Fantastic ergonomics and range of customisation - great
accessory for fighting game fans - [For the sake of transparency,
I received this item for free through the desertcart Vine
programme on condition that I leave an honest review. I give this
review honestly and the fact that I did not pay for this item has
not influenced my rating] I tested this controller on my Windows
desktop PC, a Windows laptop, a PlayStation 4 and a PlayStation
5, the former two of which I used games through Steam and the
Epic Game Store. A stickless arcade game controller seemed odd
but its ergonomics proved to be brilliant when playing Street
Fighter V, Streets of Rage 2, Streets of Rage 4, Mortal Kombat 1
and Mortal Kombat 11, among a few other titles. The inputs and
response times are fast and fluid without any appreciable latency
and I found the buttons very tactile. When SOCD is permitted in
games or tournaments, this controller has support for it. The RGB
modes can be personalised to your taste and the protective case
can be set to different angles to suit your playing style. You
can also customise your insert for the controller through Brook's
template. This controller isn't a cheap bit of kit but
considering the market in which this product sits, the price is
actually quite competitive. For fighting game enthusiasts, I'm
very happy to recommend this without any reservations.
Review: Works well on Switch and PC, no XBOX compatibility - Have
tested this against a variety of systems to try and give it a
thorough going over: XBOX One X, XBOX Series S, PS3, PC, Switch
1. Firstly - it is easy to change between modes by holding down
one of the face buttons before plugging in the USB. Plugged into
my PC, I could see the name change over to things including
Pokken (Switch Mode), Dual Sense 'Wireless' (PS5), DS4 (PS4),
XBOX One for Windows (XBOX Series mode), and XBOX 360 (PC Mode).
However, no matter what I tried this hit box is not detectable by
an XBOX console, be it the previous gen (X1X) or current gen
(XS). From extensive searching, it seems this is because this
controller doesn't include an XBOX chip, and therefore despite it
identifying as one when plugged in via Windows, the XBOX consoles
do not allow this. This is a shame, as in testing on the Switch
the feedback from the face buttons is great and responsive, and
the RGB lighting sets this apart from other hitboxes. The
magnetic case is permanently attached, though has flaps for
positioning at different angles. There is also a USB-C cable
included in the box to get you going but depending on your
console, any standard (and thin/small connector USB-C) to USB-A
will work fine. Overall I have to knock a star off as there is no
XBOX compatibility without resorting to further combinations of
adaptors to try and combat this chip issue. There is a lot of
customisation available (you can unscrew the face plate and print
your own design using the template available from Brook), and if
you are knowledgeable on fighting/arcade games, there are a whole
host of turbo and SOCD mode options available, again just via a
button hold down. The stick is smart enough to remember your
preference the next time you switch the console on or plug the
stick in.
