The game is a highly strategic and powerfully feline version of Russian roulette. Players fish cards until someone catches an Exploding Kittens card: at that moment someone explodes, is eliminated, they are out of the game. Unless that player has a Deactivated card in their hand that can disable the Exploding Kittens card like laser pointers, belly scratchers or catnip sandwiches would. All remaining cards in the deck are used to move, attenuate, or bypass Exploding Kittens. Exploding Kittens made Kickstarter history in 2015 when more than 219,000 people helped fund its project.
